The Aerotonos AKA the Wind Mobile was developed to fill the gap that currently exists in the wind energy-driven vehicles market. The need to provide the tourism sector with an alternative to gas-driven vehicles for their guided tours and other programs resulted in the creation of a concept vehicle to suit the demands of off-road public travel. With sustainability as well as performance being the key criteria for the design, the Aerotonos uses both solar and wind energies to power its electric motors.


A PV panel installed on the roof collaborates with a modern 40 square meter kite to provide the vehicle with enough clean power to make it through all kinds of natural terrain, without ever relying on fossil fuel or electric charging stations.

The concept also draws heavily from the kinetic sculptures of Dutch artist Theo Jansen and also by companies like SkySails or KiteGen that are pioneering wind harnessing as a viable green energy source. The wind mobile itself is composed of two concepts which provide flexibility of use to the passengers through a lightweight, ecofriendly vehicle. The vehicle itself serves as a mini-tent for the passengers when they make a stop during their sight seeing tour so that they don’t have to go through the process of loading/unloading tents, chairs, and other picnic accessories.

The lightweight vehicle is built around a hollow, tubular frame that allows the body of the tour vehicle to the centered around horizontal lines. This lets the vehicle almost glide over the terrain traveling at around 40 km per hour. The aerodynamics gets a further boost from the large windshield and wide body that comes with a high ground clearance.The vehicle aims at meeting the technical requirements of public tourism and the requirements of the user. The vehicle would also serve as a means to spread awareness about the use of alternative energy resources.
